Abstract:
The study sought to explore the use of Graphic Design Softwares in instructional
delivery in selected senior high schools in the Agona East District. The study
employed quantitative descriptive survey research design. A sample size of 6 teachers
and 285 students was selected from Swedru SHS and Nsaba Presbyterian SHS, using
a multi-staged sampling technique comprising purposive, simple random sampling
and census. The study used questionnaire to collect data from teachers and students
and data were analyzed descriptively into frequencies and percentages using SPSS
(version 23.0). The study findings revealed that, CorelDRAW and Adobe Photoshop
were the commonly used graphic design software in instructional delivery in the study
areas. Also, the findings revealed that, the major barriers to graphic design software
used in instructional delivery at the study areas were time constraint, lack of basic
training for teachers and inadequate computers for both teachers and students. Finally,
the findings from the study showed that, graphic design software used in instructional
delivery have significant effects on students’ motivation to learn graphic design.
Specifically, it helps visual arts students to develop new ideas on their own, it makes
them enjoy graphic design lessons, it encourages them to participate in graphic design
and also increase their motivation to learn graphic design. Based on these findings,
the researcher recommended that, government should invest more in ICT education in
all schools across the country.
