dc.description.abstract |
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of Geobaord software on
basic seven (7) pupils’ academic achievement in area and perimeter of plane figures. The
study used a quasi-experimental non-equivalent pre-test post-test research design. The
study made use of cluster sampling technique to select basic seven (7) classes from two
different schools within the Effutu Municipality. The sample size for the study was 109
pupils. The instruments used were pre-test and post-tests with an intraclass correlation
coefficient of 0.875. The pre-test scores were used to establish that pupils in the two
schools had similar or equivalent abilities in area and perimeter of plane figures before the
intervention. The post-test scores were used to determine the differences in academic
achievement between pupils who were taught area and perimeter with the use of the
Geoboard software and pupils who were taught area and perimeter without Geoboard
software. The pupils who were taught using the Geoboard software performed better than
their peers who were taught the concepts of area and perimeter without the use of the
software. The study also found that the use of Geoboard software in teaching and learning
increased the interest of pupils to learn area and perimeter of plane figures. Based on the
findings, it was recommended that integrating the use of Geoboard software into the
teaching and learning of mathematics will help improve pupils' understanding of
mathematics and make mathematics interesting to learn in Effutu Municipality. |
