Abstract:
The purpose of the study was the perception of teacher training and development on
Senior High School teacher’s job performance in the Sekyere Central District of Ashanti
Region and to also explore other means of improving the training and development
programmes for the Senior High School teachers in the District. Descriptive research
design using quantitative approach was used for the study. Purposive and simple random
techno specifically the lottery method were used for the study. In all a sample size of 95
were used for the study. The data collected were carefully analyzed using the descriptive
statistics such as frequencies and tables. Findings from the study revealed that strong
relationship exists between training and development and teacher job performance. The
findings therefore support the assertions that, training enhances teacher job performance,
motivates teachers to work harder and as a result increases work efficiency and quality. It
is therefore recommended that, management of senior high schools should passionately
consider training and development as key to improved work performance.
