dc.description.abstract The purpose of the study was to assess the impact of training and development programmes on job performance with the University of Cape Coast as a case study. A survey was carried out at the University of Cape Coast .The researcher used questionnaires and interviews (about 100) respondents where necessary to collect the primary data for the study. The collected data was examined and checked for validity and consistency. The data was summarised, coded and tabulated the data collected was analysed using SPSS version 17 and Microsoft excel, 2010 version. Frequency distributions and graphs were adopted to analysed the primary data collected from the respondents. The study revealed that the university provide their employees with training and development programmes to improve the performance of their employees. According to the findings about (93%) of the employees of the university have been put through some sort of training and development programmes. However the study sides with the majority of the respondents (87%) that the practices of training and development programmes at the university is relevant to the needs of the employees .the study concludes that training and development programmes at UCC are very effective thus, the quality of training matches the needs of the employee. The most common training types are on-the-job, mentoring and off-the-job training. Training and development has positive impacts on employee job performance, employee comfortability of working in teams; employee skills and talents, employee satisfaction and morale. Therefore, the conclusion is that there is a positive and direct relationship between training and development and employee and organisational performance. The researcher recommend that managers should frequently their organisations training and development needs. The researcher also recommended that employees must be involved in the training and development programmes. en_US
