dc.description.abstract Teacher retention plays an important role in the promotion of teaching and learning excellent. This is because teachers impart knowledge, attitude and skills to learners. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the retention of teachers at the Dwamena Akenten Senior High School in the Offinso South Municipality. Descriptive case study survey research design was used in the study. A cross sectional survey with a total sample of 75 respondents made up of teachers was adopted. Questionnaire was used to gather information for the study. The data was analysed using frequency count, simple percentage and cumulative percentage. The research revealed that, teachers were satisfied with most of the extrinsic motivating factors. Most of the respondents are also intrinsically motivated and had desires to be retained in the teaching profession. This was shown in their responses to issues relating to the nature of work recognition and responsibility. The study finally recommends that, teachers need empowerment to actively dissipate their support and roles as teachers in the schools, adequate incentive packages should be worked out for teachers as they serve good motivators. Award scheme should be put in place to reward high performing teachers in school. Areas such as teachers’ performance, teachers’ maintenance of students’ discipline, attendance and achievement in school activities should be rewarded to serve as a motivation. Finally, if all what had been said would be strictly adhered to, retention of teachers would be high en_US
