Abstract:
The main purpose of the study was to evaluate the impact of well-equipped Applied
Electricity laboratories in the teaching of Applied Electricity for competency based skills
acquisition in Senior High Technical Schools, using Tsito Senior High Technical School
as a case study. The researcher used descriptive research design for the study. The study
used quantitative and qualitative research approach. The total population for the study
was 32 students and 5 teachers totaling 37 in all. Purposive sampling techniques was
used to select all the 37 respondents for the study. Data was collected using a structured
questionnaire and an interview guide. Primary data was collected through a field survey
from teachers and students of the Tsito Senior High Technical School. The edited
responses were recorded and analyzed statistically. SPSS version 18 was used to analyze
data. The study results concluded that the school does not have enough teaching and
learning materials to facilitate the teaching and learning of Applied Electricity.
Moreover, student’s interest and class participation was high in Applied Electricity class
when the teacher used TLMs. The study recommended that the Ghana Education Service
through the District Education Office should supply adequate educational resources and
Teaching and Learning materials (TLMs) to equip the schools Applied Electricity
Laboratory and enhance the teaching and learning of Applied Electricity in the school.
