Abstract:
Subordinating conjunctions play a crucial role in connecting dependent clauses to
independent clauses, thereby enhancing the clarity and coherence of written discourse.
This study examines the use of subordinating conjunctions in academic writing,
highlighting their importance in conveying complex relationships between two ideas.
The analysis reveals that subordinating conjunctions facilitate the expression of
nuanced relationships, such as cause –and-effect, contrast and conditionality.
Furthermore, the strategic use of subordinating conjunctions is shown to improve the
overall organization and flow of written texts. The findings of this study have
implications for language teaching and learning, emphasizing the need for explicit
instruction on the effective use of subordinating conjunctions in writing.
