dc.description A DISSERTATION IN THE DEPARTEMENT OF FRENCH EDUCATION, FACULTY OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION, SUBMITTED TO THE SCHOOL OF GRADUATION STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, WINNEBA, IN PARTIAL FULFILMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AWARD OF MASTER OF EDUCATION DEGREE IN FRENCH LANGUAGE. DECEMBER, 2015 en_US
dc.description.abstract Based on the observation that FFL learners in Ghana in general and learners from Mount Mary College of Education in particular have difficulty in pronouncing certain french vowels, for instance the rounded front oral vowels : [y], [ø] and [œ], we believe it is important to conduct a study that will enable us to discover the origin of this problem. To do this, we conduct a comparative study of the phonological system of french, the target language and that of english, the official and teaching language from primary, by relying on the following theories : Contrastive analysis, Interlingua, Error analysis and that of Phonological sieves. These theories as well as the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the questionnaire and the reading test enabled us to face the facts of phonetics and phonological difference between the two languages that we believe to be the cause of these difficulties. This research aims, in fact, to help both Ghanaian french teachers and learners to master the phonetic and phonology system of French by offering several means of phonetic correction that can be applied to each error, while taking into account the needs of each learner. en_US
