| dc.description.abstract | This study focuses on Ousmane Sembène’s novel “Ȏ pays, mon beau peuple!” as an attempt to rewrite Jacques Roumain’s “Gouverneurs de la rosée”. It aims first to demonstrate that the two stories are modern epics. Moreover, the other is an attempt to reset the struggle of liberation from colonial domination and exploitation within the Marxist revolutionary theory. In doing so, we used the comparative analysis approach to establish the major similarities, and differences between the two. The Marxist, postcolonial and intertextuality theories support the study. Our analysis indicates that Jacques Roumain did not find a lasting solution to the exploitation and oppression of the people of Fonds-Rouge with his pacifism. This prompted Sembène to take over to fill the gap left by his predecessor. We thus conclude that Sembène Ousmane’s position is in line with Frantz Fanon and the likes who think that only revolutionary violence in unity can liberate dominated people from colonial exploitation. | en_US |
