The experiments were conducted in 2013 cropping season at the University of Education&#13;
Winneba, Faculty of Agriculture research field in Mampong Ashanti in the forest&#13;
transitional zone of Ghana on the Bediase series (FAO/ UNESCO : Chromic Iuvisol) to&#13;
evaluate the effectiveness of three livestock manures and soil in acidulating Togo rock&#13;
phosphate to release phosphorus, assess phosphorus release capacity of phosphate rock –&#13;
animal manure compost on the growth of lettuce and soil chemical properties. The&#13;
composting materials used were: Togo Rock Phosphate, soil, poultry manure, cattle&#13;
manure and pig manure. The treatments used were; sole composting material, RP +&#13;
composting material 1:2, RP + composting material 1:3. A complete randomized design&#13;
(CRD) with 3 replicates was used. The study established that composting phosphate rock&#13;
with animal manure significantly released phosphorus. The peak of P release was&#13;
observed on the 63rd day, with the highest release occurring in RP + PM 1:3. Best&#13;
performance of P release between the treatment ratios were in the order 1:3 &gt; 1:2 &gt; sole&#13;
materials. While best performance of P release between the composting materials were in&#13;
the order poultry manure &gt; pig manure &gt; cattle manure &gt;soil. It was established from the&#13;
study that phosphocompost application significantly affected the growth and yield of&#13;
lettuce and N, P and K uptake. Treatment RP + PM 1:3 gave significantly (p &lt; 0.05)&#13;
higher values throughout the growing period than the other amendments and the control&#13;
in plant height, leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, plant weight and N.P and K uptake.&#13;
However, all the amended soils were significantly (p &lt; 0.05) better in influencing lettuce&#13;
growth than the control. The application of the phosphocompost increased the soil&#13;
organic matter content, available P, K, CEC, total N, soil pH, organic carbon,&#13;
exchangeable bases (Ca, Mg, K, Na), percentage base saturation and decreased&#13;
exchangeable acidity. It is concluded that composting rock phosphate with animal manure improved the P releasing ability of rock phosphate as well as leaf length and yield of lettuce. The fresh and dry weights of lettuce were also better in amended soil than control

The field experiment was conducted at the Multipurpose crop nursery, College of &#13;
Agriculture Education, of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and &#13;
Entrepreneurial Development Mampong-Ashanti from July to September, 2022. The study &#13;
was conducted to determine the effect of different planting distance on performance of two &#13;
cultivar of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). The experimental design used was 2 x 3 factorial, &#13;
arranged in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three (3) replications. The &#13;
treatments were made up of 2 varieties of Cowpea (Tona and Zamzam) and 3 planting &#13;
distance (60 cm x 10 cm, 60 cm x 20 cm and 60 cm x 30 cm). The results revealed that &#13;
Zamzam planted on 60 cm x 30 cm interaction, emerged earliest (4.67 days), Tona planted &#13;
on 60 cm x 10 cm, Zamzam planted on 60 cm x 10 cm and 60 cm x 10 cm spacing emerged &#13;
at the same period (5.33 days) whilst Zamzam planted on 60 cm x 20 cm interaction emerged &#13;
late (6.33 days). Tona planted on 60 cm x 20 cm and Zamzam planted on 60cm x 30 cm &#13;
were earliest to flower (41.00 days) whilst Tona planted on 60 cm x 10 cm were earliest to &#13;
pod (45.3 days).Tona produced wider canopy width and higher number of leaves per plant &#13;
than zamzam from 6 to 8 WAP, whilst Tona planted on 60 cm x 30 cm interaction produced &#13;
significantly (P≤0.05) wider canopy width than on 60 cm x 10 cm interaction. Zamzam &#13;
planted on 60 cm x 10 cm produced significantly (P≤0.05) taller plants than Tona planted on &#13;
60 cm x10 cm and on 60 cm x 30 cm interaction which produced shortest plants at 4 WAP &#13;
and 6 WAP respectively. Planting distance 60 cm x 10 cm produced significantly heaviest &#13;
root fresh weight at 8 WAP. Tona planted on 60 cm x 30 cm interaction produced &#13;
significantly greatest number of branches per plant at 8WAP. It is therefore recommended &#13;
that for high yield of cowpea, farmers are to plant Tona using 60 cm inter row spacing and &#13;
either 10 cm, 20 cm or 30 cm intra row spacing for maximum number of branches per plant.

An ideal plant spacing and fertilizer doses for okra's [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) &#13;
Moench] contributes its performance and output. An experimental study was conducted &#13;
at the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture Education, College &#13;
of Agriculture Education of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and &#13;
Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Mampong-Ashanti campus, to evaluate &#13;
the effect of different plant spacing and different rates of urea fertilizer application on &#13;
the growth and yield of okra variety Asontem. Three different plant spacing (S1 = 60 &#13;
cm x 40 cm, S2 = 60 cm x 50 cm, and S3 = 60 cm x 60 cm) and three different rates of &#13;
urea fertilizer (N1 = 0 kg N ha-1&#13;
, N2 = 46 kg N ha-1&#13;
, and N3 = 69 kg N ha-1&#13;
) were used &#13;
in the experiment. The experiment was conducted in a 3 x 3 factorial arrangement in a &#13;
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Superior results &#13;
were seen from the widest plant spacing (60 cm x 60 cm) and the highest rate of urea &#13;
fertilizer (69 kg N ha-1&#13;
) applied in the vegetative growth, and yield components of okra. &#13;
Nonetheless, the tallest plant height and maximum pod yield per hectare were achieved &#13;
with the closest plant spacing (60 cm x 40 cm) treated with a higher rate of urea fertilizer &#13;
application (69 kg N ha-1&#13;
). Farmers are then advised to cultivate okra variety Asontem&#13;
at a plant spacing of 60 cm x 40 cm with a higher rate of urea fertilizer at 69 kg N ha-1&#13;
for optimum pod yield per hectare.

The Experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the crop and soil science &#13;
Department of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial &#13;
Development formerly University of Education Winneba, Mampong –Ashanti. From &#13;
October to December 2021 to determine the effects of different staking methods on the &#13;
vegetative growth and yield of cucumber. Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) &#13;
was used with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were No staking, &#13;
String staking, Anchor staking and Single staking. The Parameters were plant height, &#13;
plant girth, number of leaves, fruit diameter, fruit length, number of fruit per plant, day &#13;
to 50% flower. Data collected was analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and &#13;
The treatment means separated with the Least significant difference (Lsd) at 5% level of &#13;
probability. The findings indicate that, although staked cucumber performed better than &#13;
the non-staked cucumber, however, among the three staking methods (Anchor, String, &#13;
and Single staking), String staking performed best on both vegetative and yield &#13;
performance of cucumber followed by Single staking and Anchor staking recording low &#13;
on both vegetative and yield performance of cucumber. It is therefore recommended that &#13;
farmers should adopt the string staking.
