Baidoo, A.
This study examined the effects of deprivation on the quality of basic education delivery
in the Wassa Amenfi East Municipality. The research was anchored on the Input-
Process-Output (IPO) Theory and Human Capital Theory. Employing a quantitative
approach and a descriptive survey design, the study targeted a population of 381
teachers across 37 schools in four selected circuits. A sample size of 196 respondents
was determined using the Yamane (1967) formula, with participants selected through
proportionate stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected
using a close-ended questionnaire on a 4-point Likert scale and analyzed with IBM
SPSS (v.27) and Microsoft Excel (2021) using frequencies, means, standard deviations,
and Pearson Correlation. The findings revealed that public basic schools in the
municipality are significantly deprived in terms of infrastructure, teacher availability,
and teaching-learning materials. While these deprivation levels had a marginal impact
on individual teacher delivery, the study found a strong negative correlation between
deprivation and student outcomes; specifically, as deprivation increases, both academic
performance and pupil attendance rates significantly decrease. It was concluded that
while teachers remain resilient, the physical and material deprivation of schools creates
a barrier to student success that requires urgent policy intervention to ensure equitable
education delivery, Consequently, it is recommended that the Ghana Education Service
(GES) should provide targeted grants for infrastructure in deprived areas and implement
continuous professional development to sustain teacher motivation.

Mensah, I.A
This study evaluated the effectiveness of School Management Committees (SMCs) in
enhancing governance of basic public schools in the Ekumfi District of Ghana. The
research aimed at assessing SMCs' roles in resource mobilization, infrastructure
maintenance, and community participation, as well as their impact on teacher job
satisfaction. Utilizing a quantitative research approach with a positivist view of research
paradigm, descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected from 140
respondents across 20 public basic schools through structured questionnaires. The
findings indicated that SMCs are moderately effective in mobilizing resources,
particularly through community engagement and partnerships with NGOs. However,
challenges persisted in securing technological resources and ensuring transparency in
financial reporting. The study also revealed that SMCs significantly contributed to the
maintenance of school facilities, with monitoring and prioritization of maintenance
tasks being key strengths. There was a strong positive correlation relationship between
community participation and teacher job satisfaction, highlighting the importance of
inclusive governance in fostering a supportive work environment for teachers. The
study concluded that while SMCs play a vital role in school governance, their
effectiveness was hindered by systemic limitations, necessitating targeted interventions
for capacity building and resource allocation. Recommendations included establishing
continuous training programmes for SMC members by the district education directorate
and enhancing community involvement in school management to improve educational
outcomes.

Early sexual behaviours and implications the case of public senior high schools in Assin South District, Ghana
Morrison, L.N.
The focus of this study was to explore early sexual behaviours among Senior High
School students in Assin South District. The study employed the convergent or
concurrent mixed method design. The population of interest in this study comprised
Senior High School (SHS) students, teenage parents who dropped out of school at the
SHS level, parents of SHS teenagers and school counsellors in Assin South District.
Using purposive, proportionate stratified and systematic sampling techniques 318
respondents in the Assin South District were selected for the study. Questionnaire and
Interview guide were the main instrument employed in data collection. Expert reviews
and the pre-test of instrument were used to ensure validity of the instrument. The
reliability of the instrument, in terms of internal consistency, was ascertained using
Cronbach's Coefficient Alpha test. The individual scales had coefficients beyond 0.7,
suggesting appropriateness. Data collected were analysed descriptively and
thematically. The study revealed that the influx of exposure to pornographic pictures
and videos in the community arouses the sexual interest of students hence the edge to
practice (put into action) the scenes portrayed in the pornographic videos. The issue of
poverty, lack of access to education, healthcare, and resources, lack parental support,
communication, or supervision and peer influence within the socio-cultural milieu
cannot be relegated to the background. In addition, failure to control the excesses from
these factors above resulted in some consequences. These include teenage pregnancy,
truancy and school dropout as well as contraction of STIs. Factors such as personal
values, fear of getting pregnant, fear of contracting STIs as well as the desire for
academic achievement were some reasons shared by sexually not active students to help
them abstain from sexual activities. It was recommended that teachers and school
counsellors should create awareness on sexual behaviours and how to handle such
biological instincts when the need be. This will expose students to different ways
through which when such tendency and feelings occur, they can adequately manage it
to its barest minimum rather than engaging in sexual intercourse and other sexually
related activities.

This study explored the early childhood intervention services for children with special
needs in selected early childhood centers in Abuakwa Township. Critical Disability
Theory and the social learning theory of Bandura (1986) were adopted for the study.
Pragmatism rooted in the mixed method approach was selected for the study. Crosssectional
survey was the design used for the study. The target population comprised all
teachers and parents of CwSN from five selected public early centers. A total of 65 teachers
were randomly selected from the various early childhood center for the questionnaire
administration. For the qualitative phase, 5 teachers and 5 parents were selected using
purposive sampling. A structured questionnaire and semi-structured interview guide
were the instruments used to gather data for the study. The quantitative data was
analyzed using simple frequencies counts and percentages, means and standard
deviations while the qualitative data was analyzed thematically. The findings
established that both parties thus, parents and teachers render EI services to children
with special needs to enhance their better well-being and development. In addition,
the findings revealed that EI services for CwSN is drawn back by human and financial
challenges. Therefore, it was recommended that parents and teachers in Abuakwa
Township should not rest on their oars but rather put in more efforts in order to render
the apt EI services to CwSN to have positive impacts on their psychological, mental,
social, motor and well-being. Finally, all stakeholders in Abuakwa Township should
make it their core mandate to put in efforts in providing the required human and
capital resources to ensure that they will be able to provide the apt EI services to all
early grade CwSN.
